Eagle County Bus Barn Building
Garage and administrative offices for Eco transit in Leadville, Colorado
A 4,600 S.F. bus storage garage that houses up to six Eagle County transit buses and also includes office space and an equipment loft. The architect wanted a less industrial appearance to the building and incorporated plan irregularities to create a more architecturally diverse aesthetic. This, along with a slight grade change produced several different conditions at the foundation. Most of the building is a pre-manufactured metal building. The structure was made to look less industrial with the application of more rustic looking siding and roof materials, overhead doors clad with reclaimed wood, a porch style entry and orienting the siding in different directions to break up long wall planes. This look fit in well with the existing architecture in the old mining town of Leadville. Because of the shorter construction season in Leadville, it was important to have a structure that could be erected quickly.
