Parking Structure and Library

Evaluated design performed by another engineer of record in parking and library facility.  Based on our evaluation of the design, we recommended to the City Council a deep foundation alternative to the proposed driving pile system in order to mitigate impact to downtown businesses.

We procured and recommended a specialty contractor for which we designed a screw pile foundation system as an alternative.  The screw pile designed for these two projects ranged in capacity from 115 kips to 180 kips and were load tested to double that amount.  Piles consisted of 51/2” diameter pipe with 16”diameter bearing helix embedded 6’-10’into gravel and torqued to 50,000ft/lbs to achieve these capacities.

The use of the screw pile system saved the project concrete cost, due to reduced form work and concrete and had no perceivable vibration and noise impact on the downtown area.
